How to Photoshop | Use Lasso Tool

Lasso tool is selection tool available in Adobe Photoshop. We will now see how to use lasso tool to select area in our image. In learning how to Photoshop this is our continuing tutorial in the section of Photoshop Tools Tutorials. We previously talked about Rectangular Marquee Tool and Pen Tool in detail in the Photoshop Tools Tutorial section.

Basically there are three Types of Lasso Tools.

  1. Lasso Tool
  2. Polygonal Lasso Tool
  3. Magnetic Lasso Tool

Lasso Tool:

Lasso tool is a free hand selection tool and is very easy to use. The shortcut key forselecting Lasso Tool is L key on the keyboard. If you want to select any object or area you can hold mouse button and drag mouse around the object or shape you want to select. Its same like drawing a shape once you close your shape and free the pressed mouse button the selection is done. Be careful to close your shape otherwise the ending point will automatically be connected with starting point via straight line on leaving the pressed muse button.

Polygonal Lasso Tool:

Polygonal lasso tool is used for straight sided area selection. Press Shift+L to change from Lasso Tool to Polygonal Tool To select area…

Create a new anchor point as a start point by clicking left mouse button.
Click left mouse button whenever you want to create a new anchor point.
Join your last anchor point to the first anchor point to close the area.
You can see your selection is made!

There are differences between Lasso Tool and Polygonal Lasso Tool. The use of both tools is different. Polygonal tool can be used effectively where we need a polygonal selection. We use anchor points in Polygonal lasso tool as compared to simple lasso tool.
