Photoshop Basic Tutorials - How to save

Here we are with an other very basic, How to Photoshop Tutorial. We have started learning Photoshop from the first step. In the last tutorial we learned How to use Photoshop to create a new document in Photoshop, how to make size and background adjustments and how to open an existing document in Photoshop.

How to save a document in Photoshop:

When we have finished working with Photoshop we need to save our work in a desired format. For this purpose we simply have to go to…
File > save… or click

Ctrl + s on PC
Cmd + s on Mac

Once you do this a box will appear asking you where you want to save your document, Specify the location where you want to save this document. After specifying look down and select a format you want you document to be saved in. Now you have to leek at your preferences where you want to you the image after finishing or you want to carry on editing sometime tomorrow.

If you want to carry on editing after a while or sometime again, you should save your document in .PSD from the drop-down format if it has layers in it. You can also save your image in .PNG or . GIF formats as these are mostly used formats. We normally save documents in .jpeg or .jpg format because it covers less space with better efficiency. When you are happy with your settings click SAVE.

A new box will open showing some settings, this settings box differs with different formats. Here we see .jpg format settings. You have to set the quality you want of your image. More the quality, more will be the size of the image.

How we can use Save as Option

We are often in a position when we are working with a file and want to save it as a separate image from the one we have saved before, to do this we can use the option of save as.

Click Shift + Ctrl + S on PC or Shift + Cmd + S on Mac to save the file as a new document or go to

File > Save as… now as we are saving it as a new file the same steps will be revised and options are selected as shown above.
